Psychotherapy in Edinburgh & online

Psychotherapist in Edinburgh’s New Town

I’m Tom Wells, a psychotherapist offering individual therapy for adults in Edinburgh and online. I work from a quiet consulting room on Drumsheugh Gardens in Edinburgh’s New Town, and by secure video call with clients across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

People come to therapy for different reasons. Some know exactly what’s wrong with their life; others have a more general sense of dread or unease. What’s common is the feeling that the cost of coping has got too high — that they need someone to talk to, someone who can help them think things through.

My training is in psychodynamic and person-centred counselling and psychotherapy. I’m a registered member of the BACP and a registered counsellor member of COSCA.

Approach

A committed, personal practice

Person-centred and psychodynamic psychotherapy for adults in Edinburgh and online. Each piece of work is shaped by the person in the room, not a programme or set of targets.

01 · Personal

Personal

I don’t follow a set programme or routine. What we work on, how we work, and the pace at which we move are all shaped by you, and by the relationship that emerges between us.

02 · Confidential

Confidential

What you say stays in the room. Without that, none of the rest is possible. I try to offer a space where you can speak about things without fear of judgement.

03 · Consistent

Consistent

One way we build trust is through consistency. We meet at the same time each week for 50 minutes, barring holidays or illness. The space is familiar and secure.

About Tom

Psychotherapist in Edinburgh

I’m a psychotherapist based in Edinburgh. I trained in psychodynamic and person-centred psychotherapy at the University of Edinburgh, and hold a degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford. I’m registered with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and with COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland).

My approach is careful, unhurried, and grounded in the belief that most psychological difficulties make sense when you understand what they developed in response to. I pay attention to patterns — how you relate to others, how you talk about yourself, what you avoid — and I try to help you see these patterns more clearly so that you have more choice about how you interact with them.
